Located on the island Hispaniola, part of the Antilles archipelago, the Dominican Republic shares the territory with Haiti. Natives call their island Quisqueya, which means “mother of all earths”. The Cathedral, “Primada de América”, was the first cathedral to be built in the New World. A festival you should not miss is the Dominican Carnival, which is one of the most colorful cheerful traditions of the country celebrated during February. As it is an agricultural and farming place, the Dominican Republic offers a great variety of gastronomic dishes where the Europeans influences blend together with the native creating explosive flavors.
