Santo Domingo - Boca Chica
Located on the island Hispaniola, part of the Antilles archipelago, the Dominican Republic shares the territory with Haiti. Natives call their island Quisqueya, which means “mother of all earths”. Among the most distinguished Dominican places we can mention Puerto Plata known as the amber coast because of its rich deposit of amber discovered on the hills. Great amounts of Silver and gold are found in this place as well. Another important place is Punta Cana, located at the east cape of the island, which boasts exotic, tropical landscapes. Punta Cana is the paradise for people who love white-sanded, palm-lined beaches with turquoise water. Cabarete is a seashore town ideal for windsurfing. Finally, Santo Domingo, the capital city of the republic is the oldest capital in the New World. There you will find forts, colonial palaces and churches, which date from the XVI century. The Cathedral, “Primada de América”, was the first cathedral to be built in the New World. A festival you should not miss is the Dominican Carnival, which is one of the most colorful cheerful traditions of the country celebrated during February. As it is an agricultural and farming place, the Dominican Republic offers a great variety of gastronomic dishes where the Europeans influences blend together with the native creating explosive flavors. The Dominican Republic is a small place in the world but is has something for everybody
