New Delhi, the 2010 Commonwealth Games.


The 2010 Commonwealth Games, popularly known as Friendly Games, are scheduled to be held in New Delhi, India between 3 October and 14 October 2010. This international event will considerably foster international tourism in India. These games are organized by the Common Wealth Federation, a union of around 70 countries of the entire world, which used to be British colonies. The Commonwealth Games is one of the largest multi-sport events in the world, which is held every four years. This will be the largest event hold in India since the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982.
The opening ceremony is planned to be celebrated at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi. The city of Delhi is expected to greet more that 5 Million visitors from India and abroad. The city of New Delhi was chosen as hostess of the games, because of its amazing charms, cosmopolitan culture and rich history. In addition, it has a wonderful climate, an astonishing geography and a fascinating blend of an old ancient culture with modern and sophisticated infrastructure and means of transportation of communication. Indias hospitality and warm people is another important ingredient of the country.

The country is carrying out lost of arrangement in New Delhi that covers transportation, sports facilities, training facilities, security, entertainment, shopping centers etc. What is more, a new modern game village is being built which will cost 230.7 Million dollars and will occupy an area of 63.5 hectares. This village objective is optimizing the athletes comfort by providing a relaxing environment surrounded by dense green vegetation.  The government of New Delhi is working on the improvements of the city infrastructure and accommodations for five years. The commonwealth games will bring to New Delhi more foreigner visitors that it had ever seen since 1982, during the Asian games.
The Seventeen sports which participate in this event are Rugby, Weightlifting, Squash, Table Tennis, Aquatics, Athletics, Gymnastics, Hockey, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing and Triathlon. The competitions will take place the already existing stadiums and in brand new stadiums which are built especially for the occasion. Even the existing stadiums are being renovated and upgraded to meet international standards. The games will welcome 8500 athletes of 85 Commonwealth teams.
